Nadi, Fiji - While strong wind warnings remain in place for all of Fiji, the Fiji Meteorological Service has now officially cancelled the gale warning issued yesterday afternoon as weather conditions begin to gradually improve.

The tropical cyclone alert previously in place for the Southern Lau island group in the eastern part of the country has also been cancelled.

Heavy seas and torrential rain continue to hover around western Fiji however all international flights are continuing to fly into Nadi International Airport.

Air Pacific is continuing to operate normally. The national carrier had one inbound service delayed this morning (its Honolulu-Nadi service) which impacted the Nadi-Brisbane outbound flight now scheduled to leave later today.

There have also been some cancellations and minor delays on domestic services.

Inter-island ferry services including Awesome Adventures/South Sea Cruises have begun operation again and cruise companies, including Blue Lagoon Cruises and Captain Cook Cruises, are gearing up to resume normal operations.

Speaking from Tourism Fiji’s head office in Nadi, CEO Josefa Tuamoto advised that ongoing checks with hotel and resort operators across the destination have not indicated any major damage to property and all guests, while obviously inconvenienced by the poor weather, were all safe.

“We are very used to this sort of weather at this time of year and prepare accordingly,” he said.

“We are also very experienced in getting things back to normal as quickly as possible.”
