Dec 07, 2007

(eTN) - New figures released on Thursday indicate that Indianapolis is rolling in dough from the tourist trade.

The numbers, from the Indianapolis Convention and Visitors Association, revealed a sharp increase in tourism dollars from 2005 to 2006, indicating that visitors plunked down more than $3.5 million in Indy in '06.

Convention organizers announced the results at their annual state of tourism event.

The money from tourism is expected to grow in the near future, with the expanded convention center and Lucas Oil Stadium opening in less than a year.

"The demand is there for Indianapolis as a popular place. It's not just the building, it's the hotels, the restaurants -- all within walking distance," said Bob Schultz.

The association also unveiled a new promotional campaign for Indianapolis -- "For You, From Me."
