AASA re-elects Air Zimbabwe’s Dr. Peter Chikumba as chairman

Nov 16, 2010

HARARE, Zimbabwe - The Airlines Association of Southern Africa (AASA) has elected Air Zimbabwe’s Group Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Peter Chikumba, for a second term as its Chairman. That second term began October 9, 2010. The re-election took place during the AASA’s 40th Annual General Meeting and Conference held October 7–10, 2010 at the Royal Swazi Sun Hotel & Spa in Swaziland.

With 34 years of experience in aviation management, Dr. Chikumba assumed the AASA chairmanship following the expiration of the term of Chairman, Oscar Madombwe. A trained aircraft engineer, Dr. Chikumba has been at the helm of Air Zimbabwe for the past 3 ½ years. Prior to his association with Air Zimbabwe, he has served in senior management positions with IATA where he was Regional Director for Africa and Air Namibia.

Dr. Chikumba is the first person elected to chair the AASA Board who is not a South African. He is known to champion the process of placing more focus on regional issues within the AASA’s agenda.

The Zimbabwe Air fleet is comprised of two Boeing 767-200 ERs, three Boeing737-200s, and three Xian MA60s.
