At the official closing ceremony of the Shanghai World Expo 2010, it was confirmed that the tropical islands of the Seychelles won two awards among those attributed to African participants by the Expo Coordination Bureau and the African Department of Shanghai 2010.

The awards were for “The Best Attraction” and for “The Best Managed Commercial Booth.” Seychelles was the only African country which participated in the Joint African Pavilion to win two awards at the ceremony.

The African pavilion, in which each African country had a stand and which received the award of “The Best Pavilion,” was the most popular of the Expo and attracted over 22 million visitors over the six month that the Shanghai Expo was open. The African Union participated in the Expo as well as 42 African countries.

โ€œThis award is indicative of the ambition of our country and it is a strong sign of the impact we made at the Expo,โ€ said the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Jean-Paul Adam. โ€œThe success of the stand also reflects the strength of our relations with China,โ€ added the Minister.

The Seychelles Pavilion was one of the most popular stands featured and faced daily queues spanning over 100 m.
