(eTN) - It was learned that the national airline of Rwanda, RwandAir, has recently secured traffic rights between Kigali and Lusaka, Zambia, and plans are underway from late this year to commence flights between the two countries.

Immediate priority right now is to put final touches for RwandAir’s first long-distance flights out of Africa, when on November 3 the airline will launch its Kigali–Mombasa–Dubai route, using its B737-500 aircraft.

Due to the narrow timeframe available between receiving the information and going to press, it could not be ascertained if the Lusaka flights would be operated in conjunction with other destinations, i.e., if the flight might route through to Johannesburg. Details did filter back that a Zambian airline, also given traffic rights as a designated airline, could also commence operations under the bilateral air services agreement.
