Twin Peaks for Corinthia Hotels

Corinthia Hotels announced that two of its leading five-star hotels, the Corinthia Palace Hotel & Spa in Malta and the Corinthia Hotel St. Petersburg in Russia, have won the coveted titles of “Maltaโ€™s Leading Hotel” and “Europeโ€™s Leading Meetings and Conference Hotel,” respectively, at the World Travel Awards (WTA) European regional ceremony held in Antalya, Turkey, recently.

This is the second year in a row that the Corinthia Palace Hotel and Spa laid claim to this World Travel Awards title, whereas for the Corinthia Hotel St. Petersburg, it is the second major accolade in the space of two weeks, having just been declared “Best Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Events (MICE) Hotel in St. Petersburg” at the Russian Business Travel & MICE awards.

Set in extensive landscaped gardens, the Corinthia Palace Hotel & Spa, the “Grand Lady” of Maltaโ€™s luxury hotels, was the very first hotel to fly the Corinthia flag when it opened in 1968 in the presence of Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh. Since then, the world-renowned hotel has become the benchmark for excellence in Maltaโ€™s luxury hotel sector and the catalyst for the “Corinthia Hotels” brand worldwide expansion.

On its part, following total renovation and extension of its two 19th century buildings on the main boulevard in the heart of the famous city, the Corinthia Hotel St. Petersburg has become the most sought-after business and leisure hotel in the city. Its high levels of services and facilities have been highly praised by local and international representatives of the business community and the many world-famous personalities that have stayed in the hotel.

The World Travel Awards was launched in 1993 to acknowledge and recognize excellence in the worldโ€™s travel and tourism industry. Now celebrating its 17th anniversary, the awards is regarded as the very highest achievement that a travel product could ever hope to receive. Votes are cast by 183,000 travel professionals, which include travel agencies, tour and transport companies, and tourism organizations in over 160 countries across the globe. Votes are cast globally by fellow industry professionals in over 1,000 different categories. Attended by senior executives from major travel companies, operators, and destinations, WTA events are universally respected as providing established, top-level networking opportunities, regionally and globally.

Presenting the awards, Graham Cooke, founder and president of the World Travel Awards, commented: โ€œBecause of its global reach and reputation, World Travel Awards is unique and regularly referred to as the โ€˜Oscarsโ€™ of travel and tourism. This means that consumers are increasingly using our portfolio of winners as a reliable and independent guide when booking their travel. What is so encouraging is the strength demonstrated by European travel and tourism in the face of adversity. Tonightโ€™s winners represent the cream of the industry, and those players that are leading the continentโ€™s recovery. The past 12 months have brought several challenges, namely the economic downturn and the outbreak of swine flu, which has impacted travel and tourism worldwide; todayโ€™s winners have remained focused on their long-term objectives and continued to deliver above and beyond the call of duty, setting an industry example.โ€

The Corinthia Palace Hotel & Spa and the Corinthia Hotel St. Petersburg are operated by CHI Hotels & Resorts.
