NAIROBI, Kenya – Kenya Airways (KQ) is assuring KQ passengers of uninterrupted service as the airline goes into immediate talks with the Aviation & Allied Workers Union (AAWU) Kenya. Chief industrial relations officer at the Ministry of Labor and Human Resource Development, Mrs. Alice Tabu, has appointed Mr. S.M. Mbae to arbitrate between the two parties. Mr. Mbae in turn has convened a conciliation meeting for October 13, 2010 to bring management and union to the table.

Kenya Airways CEO, Dr. Titus Naikuni, has stressed to passengers, investors, and the general public that the airline will continue to function as scheduled. According to Dr. Naikuni, โ€œ98 flights are all scheduled to operate tomorrow, and we have no reason to cancel any flight due to staff strike, which has now been declared illegal by the Industrial Court.โ€

The airline welcomes the appointment of Mr. Mbae, as well as a move by the secretary general of Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU), requesting that its affiliate union call off the strike and return to the negotiating table for further talks. Dr. Naikuni has reaffirmed the airlineโ€™s commitment to dialogue, negotiation, and to strictly following established dispute resolution procedures. โ€œWe have diligently adhered to the process and agreements that we have signed with the union, and there is no time that we have acted in breach of this process,โ€ stated Dr. Naikuni.
