Dr. Hans-Joachim Körber To Succeed Johannes Zurnieden

Air Berlin appoints new board chairman

Oct 12, 2010

Effective December 31, 2010, the current chairman of the board of directors at Air Berlin, Johannes Zurnieden (age 60), will step down to devote more time to other duties. Taking his place will be 64-year-old Dr. Hans-Joachim Körber, currently a board member for the airline company.

An entrepreneur from Bonn, Johannes Zurnieden, owner of Phoenix Reisen GmbH, was a partner in Air Berlin GmbH & Co. Luftverkehrs KG for many years. After the airline’s flotation in May 2006, he became chairman of the board of directors of the company that had been transformed into an English PLC at the end of 2005.

Air Berlin CEO Joachim Hunold (61) commented after a board meeting on Monday afternoon: “Johannes Zurnieden has accompanied and advanced the development of our company from a small charter airline to the second largest German carrier. With his unflagging commitment and the fairness which has marked his entire period in office, he has made a major contribution to Air Berlin.” Zurnieden will remain a shareholder and board member.

His successor, Dr. Hans-Joachim Körber, has also been a member of Air Berlin’s board of directors since May 2006. Dr. Körber, who has a university degree in business administration, was chairman of the board of management at Metro AG from 1999 until 2007 and now serves on the supervisory boards of several international companies.
