Air Botswana announces change to Johannesburg/Maun service

GABORONE, Botswana – As of October 1, 2010, Air Botswana’s direct service between Johannesburg, South Africa, and Maun, Botswana, will cease.

GABORONE, Botswana – As of October 1, 2010, Air Botswana’s direct service between Johannesburg, South Africa, and Maun, Botswana, will cease. From October 1 on, the route will include a 20-minute tech stop in Gaborone.

The change is the result of Botswana/Republic of South Africa BASA/RSA re-negotiations held in Pretoria July 2, 2010. The re-negotiation will continue, although according to the Botswana Ministry of Transport & Communication, a date for the resumption has not been set. Meanwhile, a new plan of action has been established regarding the Johannesburg/Maun route. Customs clearing and immigration will be conducted in Maun, and fares will not change. Those holding tickets for the direct route should contact Air Botswana offices for assistance with ticket reissuance. For un-ticketed bookings, agents are requested to ticket as per the current fare levels and applicable taxes based on the direct flight JNB-MUB-JNB until further notice.

A new schedule with changes to the direct JNB-MUB route has been distributed and is in the system.
