(eTN) - Following the introduction of Fly 540’s scheduled flights to the western Kenyan municipality, the Kenya Airports Authority has issued tenders for the expansion and resealing of Kakamega Airfield's strip and the modernization of the terminal and other facilities expected of an aerodrome receiving scheduled air services and regular charters.

It is understood that the government would have to compensate the nearby community or resettle them in order to expand the length of the strip, so that larger turboprop aircraft can eventually be used for flying to Kakamega.

The airline commenced these flights in May and upgrades to the Kakamega field will be welcome news, not just for the airline but also for the traveling public, some of whom had in the past made their views known in public and private about the state of the facilities.
