BANGKOK – Myanmar carrier Air Bagan is launching twice-weekly flights between Yangon and the resort island of Phuket in Thailand, Agence France-Presse reported Sunday.

Myanmar Times reproted that a spokeswoman for Air Bagan said that the service will start in early December on Mondays and Fridays. The carrier will use a Fokker aircraft that seats 100 passengers.

Air Bagan, owned by Myanmar tycoon Tay Za – who is believed to have close ties to the junta – also announced plans to increase flight frequency on its existing route from Yangon to the northern Thai town of Chiang Mai.
