Useful For Visitors And Worth Collecting

21st edition of Seychelles in Your Pocket guide book is released

Sep 17, 2010

The 21st edition of the guide book “Seychelles in your pocket” was published recently. The guide, written by Franca Rolfini and published by the Antik Colony souvenir shop, is available in two editions and four languages – English/Italian and French/German. Apart from being a useful guide for all, the book is also a collector’s item. The author’s introduction contains a quote from Seychelles President James Michel’s acceptance speech on collecting the Most Innovative People Award (Natural Innovation), during which he said that “Seychelles became a torch bearer for harmony and tolerance and innovation in social and environmental development.”

Mrs. Rolfini writes: “This award demonstrates how far Seychelles has come in protecting its natural habitat. The wealth of nature in Seychelles makes it one of the world’s most exclusive and spectacular destinations.”

Information in the guide includes maps and detailed descriptions of the islands, and the book has addresses and telephone numbers for accommodation, water sports, and Creole restaurants. It is written in a visitor-friendly way, making for easy-on-the-eye reading with many colorful pictures illustrating the author’s points.

Seychelles In Your Pocket is being distributed in countries as far off as Europe, where it is finding its way to the top tour operators and tourism fairs. Locally, the book is available at the Antik Colony shop in the Pirates Arms arcade in Victoria, Mahé, and also at local bookshops, hotel boutiques, and duty-free shops.

On another note, the sixth edition of the Visitors’ Pocket Map – a supplement to the Seychelles in Your Pocket reference guide - for visitors also published by Antik Colony souvenir shop and is out with the latest updates. Covering Mahe, Praslin, La Digue, and Eden Island, it is printed in Italy on waterproof paper and is also a directory and collector’s item. Shop owner Franca Rolfini said the map has been designed using ideas and suggestions from people involved in tourism-related fields. Copies of the pocket map will be given to all visitors arriving on Air Seychelles’ flights, to the Seychelles Tourism Board, and to local and international tour operators.

Alain St.Ange, CEO of the Seychelles Tourism Board and eTurboNews ambassador, said that this is a private sector-led approach, and this guide goes a long way in helping Seychelles spread its message of being the serious tourism destination it is and remains to be.
