World Tourism Day (WTD), which is marked annually on September 27, is set to be an exciting moment for Seychelles and its Tourism Board this year, with two interesting events on program – a Tourism Ball and a Tourism Expo.

These two activities are being organized by the Seychelles Tourism Board (STB) and will be held under the WTD 2010 theme, Tourism and Biodiversity, declared by the World Tourism Organization (WTO).

The celebrations will kick start with the 2010 Tourism Ball on Saturday, September 25, at the Domaine de Val des Pres, Au Cap. This activity is a long-time favorite among the local business community, and it is making its return on the tourism calendar after a few years of absence. The tourism ball will be primarily targeting the tourism trade and businesses, as well as staff of the tourism industry who will be taking the occasion to network with the partners.

Guests will be invited to dance to musical performances by local bands "Zez" and "Zenith" who will perform throughout the evening. The tropical and picturesque setting of the Bailay’s Colonial Home will be lit up as the backdrop to the open air dancing stage. The Tourism Ball will be opened by an official government message to launch this special evening now set to become an annual event.

The second activity, which is the three-day Tourism Expo, will be held from September 27-29 at the International Conference Centre of Seychelles, whereby partners in the tourism industry and various environmental departments and agencies will be promoting the WTD 2010 theme.

The Tourism Board on its part will be featuring profiles on key individuals in the country whose official roles in tourism have contributed in molding the industry into what it is today.

The expo will be launched on Monday, September 27 by an opening ceremony at 9:00 am, where the chief executive officer of the Seychelles Tourism Board and eTurboNews ambassador, Alain St.Ange, will welcome guests and deliver a speech. This will be followed by the official launching of the "Cousin Island Carbon Neutral" by Nature Seychelles.

Guests will then view the exhibition, followed by the general public and schools. The expo will close on Wednesday, September 29 at 1:00 pm.
