Arusha, Nigeria (eTN) – Barely 24 hours after the Nigerian Air Transport Minister of Felix Hassan Hyat announced the location of a Beechcraft 1900D aircraft 48 hours after it was declared missing, the authorities have retracted their statements.

The minister and the director-general of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Dr. Harolds Demuren, withdrew their statements stressing that the plane was yet to be found. This confusing statement has cast doubt over the state of rescue operations and the management of accident information in the Nigerian aviation sector.

An aviation consultant, Captain Dele Ore, said what is happening is saddening, adding that the search and rescue operation in the Nigerian aviation sector is only on paper.

The 8-seater aircraft belonging to Wings Aviation Limited with its three crew members was declared missing on Saturday after it left the Murtala Mohammed Airport in Lagos at 7:35 am on a domestic flight to Obudu Cattle Ranch, a tourist resort, in Cross River state, Nigeria.
