Beirut - Lebanese Tourism Minister Fadi Abboud said Wednesday there was no danger of a regional war flaring, and called on foreign tourists to visit Lebanon.

"(Arab tourists) help Lebanon by visiting the country," he said.

"There will be no war," Abboud assured potential visitors, a day after a border clash between Lebanese and Israeli troops left four dead in southern Lebanon.

Canada warned its nationals to avoid non-essential travel to Lebanon following the deadly exchange. Reports said Arab embassies advised their citizens to take extra precaution and not to travel to the south.

Lebanon was hoping 2010 would see up to 20 per cent more tourists than 2009, when 2 million people visited the country, a record since the 1970s when the Lebanese civil war broke out.
