Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad denies attack
President Ahmadinejad appeared on live Iranian TV at a sports stadium in Hamadan

Aug 03, 2010

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is a controversial man - apparently not only outside his country. An attack was obviously made on him when a man threw a bomb at the presidential convoy.

Speaking to Press TV, an informed source in Iran's presidential office has rejected as false the reports of grenade attack on Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. The president denies the attack on him and stated a firecracker exploded.

Other sources state Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad survived the attack on his car, although some people have been wounded, the Lebanese Future TV reported.

The channel Al Arabiya reported that the attacker threw a bomb at the vehicle convoy of Ahmadinejad, and the blast took place in Hamadan as Ahmadinejad was about to address a crowd. The attacker was arrested on the spot.

Al Arabiya cited its own sources as saying the bomb had hit a car carrying journalists and presidential staff.

Ahmadinejad has since appeared on live Iranian television at a sports stadium in the western city of Hamadan. He was apparently well and made no mention of the attack.
