Aviation news: Lufthansa expects 2010 operating profit to increase
FRANKFURT - German flagship airline Deutsche Lufthansa AG continues to expect that operating profit in 2010 will increase from the year earlier because of rising demand for intercontinental air travel and freight services, the company said Monday.
"The continuity of the resurgence in demand reinforces the prospects for a sustainable upswing," Lufthansa said in a statement published ahead of its investor day starting later Monday.
It added that the air cargo and intercontinental businesses "are both experiencing very strong performance."
European traffic, however, is recovering more slowly, Lufthansa said.
"Despite the negative first quarter and the airspace closures in early April, the developments of the last few months have altogether strengthened the expectations of achieving a higher operating result in 2010 than last year," Lufthansa said.
