(eTN) The first of two leased Boeing 737-500 models arrived to join the RwandAir's fleet, in a low-key ceremony at the international airport in Kigali.

The two aircraft are leased from GECAS, an aircraft leasing company, and will remain with RwandAir until their ordered B737-800 new generation Boeings arrive next year. The second of these aircraft will join the fleet reportedly in August.

The new aircraft will be deployed on the route to Johannesburg to meet increased demand for the duration of the FIFA World Cup and will also fly the newly-established connection to Kinshasa in the Congo DR.
