Hot fun in the summer time is just around the corner, and today, Orbitz released its top 10 destinations for travel, based on popularity.

"Summer travelers are taking advantage of the off-season deals in destinations like Cancun, Riviera Maya, and Punta Cana, all of which make our Top 10 list this year," said Jeanenne Tornatore, Orbitz Travel Insider. "While average summer airfares appear to be trending higher year over year, travelers will find significant hotel savings, with the majority of the season's top destinations averaging less than US$150 a night."

Travelers looking for deals this summer will find no shortage of destinations offering incentives, like discounts and free nights, to make a trip worthwhile. Travelers who prefer to plan last-minute will find that one of the best summer steals for an eleventh-hour booking will be a Caribbean cruise. While cruises to the Mediterranean and Alaska are typically in high demand during the summer months, ships sailing to the Caribbean can have plenty of cabins available and offer unbelievable prices, upgrades, and on-board credits.

TOP 10 SUMMER TRAVEL DESTINATIONS 2010:

1 Las Vegas, NV
2 Cancun, MX
3 Riviera Maya, MX
4 Orlando, FL
5 Chicago, IL
6 Punta Cana, DR
7 New York, NY
8 Oahu, HI

I do believe a little, okay A LOT, of editorial review is needed IF you intend to market to the legitimate travel industry.

The title of your article clearly states "Top 10 places to take your US summer vacation." It may have been a few years since my elementary school level geography lessons, with a few map changes, but the last time I looked Cancun, Riviera Maya and Punta Cana were NOT yet annexed into the U.S.

Your legitimacy as a travel "authority" REALLY becomes questionable with terrible mistakes (at least I hope this was a mistake) like this.
