The Director of the Zanzibar Tourism Promotion Center India, Jilesh Babla, was an exhibitor on the second day of Global Panorama Showcase (GPS) in Chandigarh, India, and was present at the event with an objective to educate travel agents from Haryana, Punjab, and Himachal Pradesh about Zanzibar, Africa.
Babla said, India is one of the key potential markets and a target segment for honeymooners, family travelers, and destination weddings. The MICE market is not their focus as of now, as they are still gearing up to target that segment. The destination has seen a 100% growth year-on-year for the past 2 years, and the tourism office in Mumbai is making efforts to give product presentation and information to travel agents.
India is the 6th largest source market for Zanzibar, with the top 2 being the USA and Europe, with June to February being the best time to visit the destination for outbound travelers from India. Visa on arrival makes it even easier for last-minute travelers to choose Zanzibar as their holiday destination.
The tourism office will soon be coming up with training programs and webinars for travel agents in India, and marketing efforts are channeled towards increasing awareness within the travel agent segment.
