United Bomb Threat Is A Dud

Official: Bomb threat on United flight 148 a prank

May 02, 2010

PHILADELPHIA - A threatening note scrawled on a lavatory wall on a United Airlines flight from Chicago to Philadelphia proved baseless, authorities say.

Flight 148, an Airbus A320 with 112 passengers and five crew members on board, landed at its destination without incident Saturday night but was moved to a remote location at Philadelphia's airport as a precaution, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported.

The passengers were greeted by police when they landed just before 7 p.m. and were put on buses before being questioned by the FBI and having their luggage rescreened, the newspaper said. No explosives were found and it hadn't been determined who was responsible for the message.

Transportation Safety Administration spokeswoman Carrie Harmon told the Inquirer the aircraft "was swept with negative findings."

Philadelphia's KYW-TV said the threatening note discovered by a crew member about 20 minutes into the flight stated, "Bomb on, will die." The flight crew notified the flight tower and was told to continue to Philadelphia, the TV station said.

"It's definitely a prank. Not a very funny one," Chief Inspector Joseph Sullivan said.
