MACAU - Macau's visitor arrivals in March 2010 totaled 2.01 million, up by 6.7 percent year on year, according to the figures released Friday by the city's Statistics and Census Service (DSEC).

The figure showed that visitors from the Chinese mainland increased by 8.2 percent year on year to 1.05 million, with 421, 704 traveling to Macau under the Individual Visit Scheme, down by 5.8 percent from March 2009.

Of the total visitor arrivals in March, those from Hong Kong ( 569,466), Japan (41,815) and Malaysia (37,238) rose by 4.4 percent, 17.6 percent and 2.1 percent respectively, while those from China' s Taiwan (114,409) decreased by 4 percent, the DSEC figures indicated.

The figure also showed that visitor arrivals totaled 6,115,221 in the first quarter of 2010, up by 12.1 percent year-on-year.

Analyzed by mode of transport, visitor arrivals by land reached 3.21 million in the first quarter of 2010, up by 14.7 percent while the number of those by sea and air respectively stood at 2. 46 million and 426,580 in the same period, the DSEC said.
