Houston-based Continental Airlines has reportedly started merger talks with United Airlines.

The talks, according to media reports, come in the wake of word that United had entered into merger talks with US Airways.

United has previously engaged in merger talks with both Continental and US Airways.

A deal with Continental never materialized after Continental decided to remain independent.

Since then, the Houston airline has a new CEO at the helm, Jeff Smisek.

Continental and United declined comment.
