Hawaii Governor David Ige recently nominated two business leaders to serve on the Hawaii Tourism Authority’s (HTA’s) board, and their appointment was confirmed by the Hawaii State Legislature.

HTA welcomed Sherry Menor-McNamara, president and CEO of the Chamber of Commerce Hawaii, and Kelly Sanders, area managing director of Marriott Hotels and Resorts Waikiki, to its board of directors. Their terms run through June 2020.

Rick Fried, HTA board chair, said: “We are thrilled to have Sherry Menor-McNamara and Kelly Sanders join our board. Their knowledge and perspective will be vital as the board looks to the future and helps guide HTA in charting a path to support the State’s tourism industry, and all the families and businesses that stand to benefit from its success.”

George D. Szigeti, HTA president and CEO, commented, “Sherry and Kelly have extensive insight about business, travel and hospitality in the Hawaiian Islands that will be of tremendous help in our fulfillment of HTA’s mission to continually strengthen tourism for the State of Hawaii.”

Sherry Menor-McNamara has led the Chamber of Commerce Hawaii since 2013 and been a strong advocate for Hawaii’s business community since joining the organization in 2006. She previously held senior-level positions directing the Chamber’s government relations, membership, events and marketing departments.

A graduate of the University of Hawaii William S. Richardson School of Law, Menor-McNamara has built a diverse professional background in sports, entertainment, business, law and government affairs in Hawaii and on the U.S. mainland.

Kelly Sanders, a hotel industry veteran for three decades, has held senior leadership positions for the Starwood and Marriott brands in Hawaii since 2006. Popular and respected within Hawaii’s tourism industry, Sanders is recognized for his expertise at strategic planning, organizational development, team building and associate relations.

He donates his time to support several local community organizations, including the Boy Scouts of America, Diamond Head Theater, American Heart Association and Filipino Community Center.
