ONYX Hospitality Group has launched its brand-new Amari Johor Bahru in Malaysia’s southern gateway city. The 242-room Amari Johor Bahru, located in the heart of the city, is ONYX Hospitality Group’s first foray into the Malaysian market.

The new city center hotel is surrounded by the Persada Convention Centre, Komtar JBCC and City Square shopping malls, a short walk to JB Sentral and the Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) Complex, and the upcoming Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) system which will link Johor Bahru and Singapore. Amari Johor Bahru is only a 30-minute drive from Senai International Airport, around an 80-minute drive from Singapore’s Changi Airport and is also offers close proximity to the heritage district, museums, cafés, traditional bakeries and various local restaurants.

“As ONYX Hospitality Group continues to expand its presence in the Asia-Pacific region, the opening of Amari Johor Bahru demonstrates the growing regional appeal of our portfolio of brands,” said Douglas Martell, Chief Executive Officer, ONYX Hospitality Group. “Amari Johor Bahru has been designed in response to market demands and trends, as tourism in Johor Bahru is currently undergoing a major transformation. This opening will pave the way for the upcoming OZO Medini and Shama Medini at the UM Medini City Lakeside Complex in the nearby Iskandar area, also developed in partnership with UMLand.”

Originally from Thailand and expanding across Asia, Amari has a rich and long-standing heritage. It celebrates the colors and rhythms of modern Asia with each hotel highlighting the textures and flavors of its unique setting through architecture, design, cuisine and service.

“We are confident that Amari Johor Bahru will be very well received in the region by both business and leisure travellers. While addressing the needs of the increasing number of tourists arriving in Johor Bahru, this hotel will also have every modern facility required by the business traveller,” said Wayne Lunt, General Manager, Amari Johor Bahru. “The property’s location could not be more perfect, literally in the heart of the city, only few minutes stroll from all shops, the old heritage quarter, ethnic restaurants, the trendy café scene and the border to Singapore.”

The hotel lobby, located on the 6th floor, offers a warm and friendly welcome and serves as the first chapter of the Amari Johor Bahru guest experience. It also serves as a social hub where guests can access other hotel features including Breeze Spa which offers a wide range of treatments including the signature mood-based scrubs and massages, Thai therapeutic experiences, body treatments, facial and salon services.
