Because of the failed Christmas Day bomb attempt on board a plane bound for Detroit from Amsterdam, security measures in Canada were tightened. After that incident, Canadian authorities announced travelers headed to the US could only carry one bag onto a plane and limited personal items.

Full body scanners were also introduced in Canadian airports and because those devices are now being used, the temporary carry-on restrictions are no longer needed, federal Transport Minister John Baird said. Now, Canadians flying to the States can bring two bags and personal items on the plane with them.
