Stratford-upon-Avon Tourist Center

Temporary tourist center opens in Stratford-upon-Avon

Apr 06, 2010

A temporary tourist center has opened in Stratford-upon-Avon to cater for bank holiday visitors after a tourism company ceased trading.

South Warwickshire Tourism Ltd, which traded under the name Shakespeare Country, closed its doors on Wednesday.

Stratford District Council has since opened a facility at the Leisure and Visitor Center.

A spokeswoman said the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust was also helping by giving out information and leaflets.

Town will also be out and about in the town to provide information and advice.

South Warwickshire Tourism also provided tourist information in the nearby towns of Leamington Spa, Warwick and Kenilworth.

The firm said it was forced to close after the district council in Stratford withdrew funding.

Its center in Leamington Spa has also closed but spokeswoman Sally Carrick said it could be reopened.

"The Leamington centre is shut but we have a very good working relationship with Warwick District Council," she said.

"We have simply pulled the shutters down, we have not taken the stock.

"The centre could open again on Friday."
