China may allow individual tourists to visit Taiwan, according to a Chinese government spokesman, in a move to further open the flow of exchanges across the Taiwan Strait.

“With the increasing rapport across the strait and as the exchange of tourists becomes more mature, it’s perfectly conceivable that we will move toward the direction of letting individuals go to Taiwan,” the Taiwan Affairs Office spokesman Yang Yi said today in a televised press conference in Beijing. He didn’t provide a schedule for the plan.
