Delta Air Lines announced today it will resume service between New York and Haiti starting April 3, 2010. Flights are scheduled for 3 times weekly between John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) and Port-au-Prince, increasing to 5 flights weekly beginning June 10.

"As part of a long-standing commitment to the Caribbean basin, Delta looks forward to once again providing multiple travel options that not only connect the tri-state area to Haiti, but will assist in ensuring more access to this region for rebuilding and humanitarian efforts," said James Sarvis, Delta's vice president - International Airport Customer Service.

Delta's previous service between New York-JFK and Haiti started June 20, 2009, but was suspended following the tragic earthquake that struck the country January 12, 2010. As part of its philanthropic efforts, Delta continues to contribute financial and in-kind support to Haiti relief efforts through multiple organizations including CARE, Yele Haiti, the American Red Cross, and other organizations.

Beginning April 3, Flight DL 435 will depart New York-JFK at 9:00 am and arrive in Port-au-Prince at 12:08 pm on Monday, Thursday, and Saturday, with Tuesday and Friday added effective June 10. Flight DL 436 will depart Port-au-Prince at 1:20 pm and arrive in New York-JFK at 6:10 pm on Monday, Thursday, and Saturday, with Tuesday and Friday added effective June 10.

Due to aircraft weight and balance limitations, all customers will be permitted one carry-on bag and one personal item, as well as two checked pieces of luggage on flights into Port-au-Prince free of charge, unless prior arrangements have been made. Excess and overweight luggage charges will apply. Detailed information on baggage allotments and fees is available on www.delta.com .
