Muscat – Above twenty professionals from the country’s thriving travel and tourism industry joined the OTM advisory meeting to align the event with the Sultanate’s strategy of promoting Oman as the preferred tourist destination in the region.

The Advisory Committee meeting was aimed to share ideas and recommendations to make OTM 2010 a valuable platform for the travel & tourism industry.

Set to be held from May 17 to 19 at the Oman International Exhibition Centre, OTM 2010 is geared towards promoting inbound tourism at the same time providing a unique opportunity for outbound tourist destinations to attract the fast growing Omani market.

“Tourism is a backbone of every economy and as such, OTM will serve as a convergence point for travel and tour operators to attract local and international tourists to explore the various opportunities and destinations in the country” said Sherwin Sevillena, Sr. Manager of Research and Development at OITE. “While OTM will put the spotlight on inbound tourism, it shall also provide a special platform for outbound tourism”.

OTM this year will also put the spotlight on tourism investments and properties and medical tourism as these sectors have witnessed an exceptional growth with more tourism integrated projects coming on the mainstream and a significant number of travelers are going abroad for state-of-the-art treatment facilities available at a reasonable cost.

Alongside the exhibition, OTM will also hold its inaugural conference with a focus on sustainable tourism, eco and sports tourism.

OITE and the newly formed OTM Advisory Committee will be meeting regularly to lay out the necessary steps to attain its goal of attracting international tourists to the country.
