Recession takes heavy toll on UK tourism
UK tourism took a battering from the recession last year, official figures have shown.
The number of visits made to the UK by overseas residents in 2009 fell to 29.57 million - a 7% decline on the 2008 figure, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) said.
The dip in the number of visits made abroad by UK residents was even bigger - going down 15% last year to 58.53 million.
