Signing Of Memorandum Of Understanding

Seychelles Tourist Board to place officers in embassies and consulates

By Wolfgang H. Thome, eTN | Feb 09, 2010

While in the Seychelles this correspondent was present to witness the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Seychelles Tourist Board (STB) to effectively place staff in selected foreign embassies in the form of trade and tourism attaches, aimed at greater penetration of source markets and to work more effectively in the new and emerging markets like in China, where an STB staff will be operating in the Shanghai consulate of Seychelles.

The launch of the agreement coincided with the starting date of the country’s tourism marketing conference, which attracted a number of foreign journalists to the archipelago to cover STB’s extraordinary efforts to create an effective PR and marketing machinery able to deliver their visitor arrival targets over the next years.

In the picture, STB’s Alain St. Ange, director of tourism marketing is seen exchanging the newly-signed MOU with the principal secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Barry Faure. Both officials commended the ground-breaking cooperation and expect synergy effects to take hold as the tourism staff seconded to a diplomatic mission would also act as a trade representative in general, towards which end the new diplomats were to receive intensive training at the ministry headquarters before deployment.

The signing ceremony was witnessed, among others, by Air Seychelles executive chairman, Capt. David Savy, and a cross-section of STB staff from abroad and their Mahe office.
