It was learned that earlier in the week a team from Boeing was in Rwanda to discuss RwandAir’s acquisition of a B737-800, likely due for delivery already by mid 2010, although the discussions also focused apparently on the purchase of a long-range aircraft to permit RwandAir to fly to the UAE as part of their route development in coming months.

There is speculation that it may be a B767, but regular sources from within the airline have been unusually mum over the airline's plans for a long-haul aircraft.

Understandably, both Boeing and RwandAir were rather guarded yesterday in their remarks over the negotiations and the soon-to-be-announced deal, according to usually well-informed sources from the tourism industry regularly in touch with this correspondent from Kigali.
