The Sarova Shaba Lodge’s occupancies have started to improve again in Kenya, following an intense security campaign in the area, which also extended to the neighboring Buffalo Springs Game Reserve and the Samburu National Park.

At the height of the drought last year, these protected areas were targeted by pastoralists and criminal elements, who drove their cattle and goat herds into the park in search of water, often displacing the wildlife by force from the scarce water sources. In the process, bandits took advantage of the situation, then prompting the tourism trade to shun certain parks and safari lodges over safety concerns.

This situation now seems to have been brought under control. Potential tourists may visit the Kenya Tourist Board web site for regular safety updates and the latest information concerning tourism in the country.
