Greedy Behavior

Bus fares to upcountry Kampala destinations double

By Wolfgang H. Thome, eTN | Dec 23, 2009

Just in time for the peak of holiday travel, bus operators have doubled fares to upcountry destinations to rip off those travelers unable to leave Kampala earlier in the week and cash in on the annual travel boom when city dwellers rush to their rural homes to spend time with their extended families.

This greedy behavior receives sharp comments in the media, and governmental departments promise year after year to halt the practice and enforce the sanctioned fares on the routes the busses are licensed to serve. But those promises seem to evaporate just like New Year resolutions, taken on the day and forgotten the next.
