Star Alliance set for new Entebbe link
The two current African members of the world’s leading airline alliance, South African Airways and Egypt Air, are already flying to Entebbe on a regular basis. South African connects daily from and to Johannesburg, while Egypt Air presently links Cairo with Entebbe three times a week.
Brussels Airlines (SN) will join these Star Alliance members as of next week, following the formal entry into Star on Wednesday, December 9. SN is already in a code share arrangement with Germany’s Lufthansa on the route, but flying under the “new banner” as a full Star Alliance member will undoubtedly add to the appeal Brussels Airlines already has for travelers from the European capital to Africa.
Passengers, many of whom have stuck to SN through thick and thin, recall the “old days” of “savoir vivre” by SABENA, and then switched loyalty to SN Brussels, which after the merger with Virgin Europe then became what is Brussels Airlines today.
A number of added benefits now await SN’s passengers from Uganda and from the other East African destination countries of Burundi, Kenya and Rwanda, when the entry has become official this week.
Already the former “QualiFlyer” and thereafter “Privilege” cardholders have been given “Miles and More” frequent flyer cards, as after all SN is now also part of the Lufthansa Group. Benefits galore are now readily available for SN’s faithful passengers, including the opening of a global network of flights via Brussels in conjunction with other Star Alliance partners to hundreds of destinations around the globe.
Uganda will undoubtedly benefit from the added choices through SN, as Star Alliance has now finally entered the long-haul market from Entebbe, which in the past was left, to One World – through British Airways – and Sky Team – for which KLM has been the lead airline to Uganda.
