Bahrain Exhibition And Convention Authority

BECA chairman Dr. Fakhro praises Jewellery Arabia 2009

By eTN Staff Writer | Nov 19, 2009

His Excellency Dr. Hassan A. Fakhro, Minister of Ministry of Industry and Commerce and chairman of Bahrain Exhibition and Convention Authority (BECA), praised the holding of the 18th annual Jewellery Arabia 2009 exhibition, held at the Bahrain International Exhibition Centre under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Khalifa bin Salman al Khalifa, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Bahrain. Bahrain hosted the largest ever jewelry show in this region positioning Bahrain once again, as one of the world’s leaders in the jewelry exhibition industry.

He said: “Jewellery Arabia is one of the region’s premiere exhibits, and this year is the largest ever covering more than 19,000 square meters. Such a huge event requires superior management capabilities, and both Bahrain Exhibition and Convention Authority (BECA) and Arabian Exhibition Management (AEM) has surpassed itself with this event once again. It is clear that Bahrain’s jewelry exhibition industry is in a leading position when, during a year of global economic slowdown, the event has increased by 18.6 percent up from 506 exhibitors last year, to 600 exhibitors this year [in] Bahrain.”

Jewellery Arabia 2009 exhibition covers the maximum space available at the Bahrain International Exhibition and Convention Centre and includes 2 additional tents that had to be put up to house exhibitors eager to take space.

Bahrain International Exhibition and Convention Centre is managed by BECA, the country’s forerunner business tourism organization, which functions under the Ministry of Industry and Commerce led by His Excellency, Dr. Hassan A. Fakhro who commented, “The enormity of the task of organizing such and event should not be overlooked, and it is clear that a lot of work went into this being a magnificent show case for Bahrain.”

HE Dr. Fakhro added that the spectacular growth shown over the years for this exhibition is very rewarding and clearly highlights the work that Bahrain had done to implement strict controls to ensure quality and combat fraud and forgery. Anyone buying jewelry from the Jewellery Arabia exhibition can have the gems stones tested on site via equipment managed on site by the Ministry of Industry and Commerce.

As well as promoting the event globally and planning the structure and layout, the AEM had to pay special attention to securing the premises and work closely with BECA for the set up, maintenance, general public security, and hiring private firms to oversee the security of the building.

The future of Bahrain’s jewelry exhibition industry is certainly secure, and we can only expect this event to continue growing adding value to the economy and enhancing The Kingdom of Bahrain’s reputation in the global trade. The authority is looking into all means to expand the exhibition area due to this tremendous ever growing demand.
