Clark: Emirates could use 78 Airbus A380s

Nov 17, 2009

Emirates could use an additional 20 A380s on top of its existing order for 58 aircraft and is looking to take over delivery slots other carriers have abandoned for other jets, carrier President Tim Clark told AviationWeek.

Emirates needs larger planes because Dubai International Airport's two-runway system has limited capacity, Clark told AviationWeek. He said Emirates looking into picking up delivery freed up by other airlines for Boeing 777-300ERs and changing its Airbus A350 XWB order to focus more on the larger A350-1000, rather than the A350-900.

Emirates is no longer considering an order for the Boeing 747-8 Intercontinental because it believes the A380 soon will be able to serve missions from Dubai to the U.S. West Coast, AviationWeek reported.
