The number of hotel rooms recorded a 23% increase to reach 4,225 compared to 3,438 registered in 2008, according to statistics released by the Rwanda Development Board (RDB).

Investors have been renovating and building hotels to match international standards, and also to meet the growing demand for tourist accommodation caused by the increased number of visitors.

The tourism sector which is Rwanda's leading foreign exchange earner needs an estimated 6,000 rooms by 2012.

The sector holds numerous investment opportunities including building of a 4 star hotel in Kibuye province, training hospitality staff, and also provision of airplane charter services to tourists.
