KINGSTON, Jamaica - Air Jamaica says is it laying off more than 200 workers as the national carrier struggles with growing losses.

CEO Bruce Nobles said Tuesday the cuts affect workers across the board and are needed to bring costs in line with revenue.

The Jamaican government says it cannot afford to keep the airline and has been trying to sell it for two years. Prime Minister Bruce Golding says the airline is losing $150 million annually.

The airline has laid off nearly 500 people since January, when it also eliminated routes to Atlanta, Miami and Los Angeles and closed offices in those cities.
