New Books Debuted This Summer
New guidebooks for the love of Slovenia
Visitors to Slovenia have a wide selection of printed guidebooks by noted foreign travel writers to choose from. Two new titles published this summer are a guide by Jacqueline Widmar Stewart and a special adventure guidebook by a team of young adventure writers. New editions of the popular Rough Guide to Slovenia and Lonely Planet Slovenia are due on the shelves next year.
Finding Slovenia: A Guide to old Europe's New Country by Jacqueline Widmar Stewart, published at the start of the summer, not only presents destinations such as Ljubljana and Bled, which have been popular for centuries, but also less well-known parks and routes. This 200-page book also introduces the reader to the sights of the countryside, hiking, skiing, and other outdoor activities and provides information on Slovenia's spas, castles, and farm tourism. Available only in English, the book is published by Mladinska Knjiga.
Bled and Bohinj: Adventure Guide is a guidebook for a new generation of travelers who do not want lengthy texts but instead simple access to key information to enable them to explore the country independently. The writers have complemented their brief, pithy, humorous, and above all, informative descriptions with illustrations, 40 clear maps and sketches, and difficulty ratings for 37 tours in the Bled and Bohinj area. The guide is the first in the new Ven! Outdoor Slovenia series, which, over the next few years, will present adventure-seekers the most interesting corners of Slovenia with a moderate hint of adrenaline. The guide is available in English and Slovene and includes an English-Slovene glossary for adventurers.
Friendly country side is the new catalogue in the series of promotional material from the Slovenian Tourist Board. Created in conjunction with the Farm Tourism Association of Slovenia, the catalogue includes descriptions and pictures of 195 farms offering tourist accommodation and a list of a further 149 registered farm tourism establishments throughout Slovenia. The catalogue is available in English, German, Italian, French, and Slovene and may also be consulted at www.slovenia.info.
New guides to Slovenia have been announced by Norm Longley and Steve Fallon, who have once again spent the summer exploring what Slovenia has to offer. Norm Longley is the author of The Rough Guide to Slovenia, the third edition of which is due in the spring of 2010. Steve Fallon has reacquainted himself with Slovenia for what is already the sixth edition of Lonely Planet Slovenia, which is due in May 2010.
