I recently attended a fam trip to the island of Bimini, Bahamas, hosted by the Bimini Bay Resort& Marina - well situated as the closest
island of the Bahamas from the US mainland - 48 nautical miles from south Florida. It is well-known for it's hospitable and
warm inhabitants and it's status as the "bonefishing capital of the world."

My adventure began at midnight and two flights later, I am “red-eyed’ from my San Francisco departure when I met up with a small group of agents from the east coast. They are affiliated with Travel Impressions and American Express agencies, and we introduced ourselves as we all met in Ft. Lauderdale's executive airport. We boarded a private charter flight and 25 minutes later landed on a beautiful strip of land only 7-miles long and 1/2-mile wide.
We then boarded a shuttle for a short ride and were met by Anne Knudsen, the Leisure and Group sales manager of Bimini Bay Resort for a scenic “pontoon” ride to the resort.

Bimini Bay Resort is a member of the "Small Luxury Hotels of the World" and the beachfront villas are well-appointed and luxurious. Guests can reserve 1-2-3-4 bedrooms - some offering single story spacious units as well as two-storied units with spiral staircases. It is ideal for small groups and families with full-service kitchens in most units.

Because the resort stretches out, most guests rent their own golf-cart to explore the resort and island.

When we arrived, the island was quiet, but as the weekend approached, many boats and yachts from Florida arrived for an eventful weekend as “Miss Universe” contestants were on the island for a photo shoot at various locations -
including the Bimini Bay Resort. I am sure there will be photos taken at the breathtaking infinity pool overlooking the ocean. Also, they will enjoy some conch and seafood and one of the two restaurants.

Recently Virgin America and JetBlue announced non-stop flights from San Francisco to Ft. Lauderdale. This will allow for easy connections with airlines flying directly onto the 25-minute short flight to Bimini.

So now, Bimini (and many other islands of the Bahamas) is closer than ever. Especially considering they are offering a “complimentary air hop’ with a minimum 4-nights stay.

Also, I now regard Bimini Bay Resort & Marina as an addition to my selection of destination wedding locations.
