Consultancy by tourism leaders for Ozyegin University Hotel Management Program
Prepared to admit its first students into the 2009-2010 academic year, Ozyegin University's Undergraduate Hotel Management Program is building a new structure combining the higher education with the private sector, as a first in Turkey. By this token, Ozyegin University established an advisory board made up of prominent leaders in the tourism and hotel management industry who will provide mentorship for the Undergraduate Hotel Management Program and offer recommendations on internship and the business life of students.
Ozyegin University's Undergraduate Hotel Management Program's advisory board is comprised of Nazire Dedeman, Mehmet Gürs, Korel Göymen, Gerhard Struger, Hülya Aslantas, Talha Camas, Oktay Varlier, Osman Serim, Mohammed Hamam, and Tavit Köletavitoglu, who are the prominent figures of the tourism and hotel management industry. The board will convene with the faculty of Ozyegin University's Undergraduate Hotel Management Program during the year and share their recommendations and views on a variety of issues ranging from students' relation with the business world and internship opportunities to project development.
The advisory board held its first meeting on July 16 at Ozyegin University.
Prior to the meeting, Hüsnü Ozyegin, chair of Ozyegin University's board of trustees, and Prof. Dr. Erhan Erkut, Ozyegin University Rector, announced the members and objectives of the advisory board.
Hüsnü Ozyegin, the chair of Ozyegin University's board of trustees, indicated that an "entrepreneur" should be hardworking, skilled, brave, and capable of thinking fast and making decisions under uncertainty, and he
continued: "At Ozyegin University, we aim to bring out the entrepreneurship spirit of the youth, while trying to educate them by providing an education integrated with the industries and furnishing them with the knowledge and experience that the business world requires. With this respect, the advisory board established as part of the Undergraduate Hotel Management Program will offer our students crucial opportunities to learn about the industries."
"Our objective is to rank within the top 20 Hotel Management Programs around the world in 10 years," Ozyegin University’s Rector Prof. Dr. Erhan Erkut emphasized in his speech. Erkut stated that the advisory board made up of eminent figures that have made invaluable contributions to development of the tourism and hotel management industry is an important step taken towards this objective. Erhan Erkut continued: "With the Undergraduate Hotel Management Program, we will educate our students as professionals who are equipped with universal knowledge, always seeking to deliver outstanding service and quality - required by the accommodation and food and beverage industries, which are the leading businesses of [the] 21st century."
Erkut also added that thanks to the Ozyegin University's qualified staff with both academic and industry experience, they would produce graduates who would be recruited by international hotel chains and leading food and beverage companies both in Turkey and around the world.
