New tourism minister for Grenada

Linda Straker, eTN Staff Writer  Jul 31, 2009

ST. GEORGE’S, Grenada (eTN) - As of August 1, Glennis Roberts will serve as the country’s new tourism minister. She formerly served in the capacity as minister for Social Development, Labor and Ecclesiastical Relations.

Roberts, who is one of three women serving in the cabinet, replaces Peter David, who lead in the Tourism and Foreign Affairs for 13 months since the Tillman Thomas administration was elected into office in July 2008. David will continue to serve as Foreign Affairs minister.

Since coming into office David with members of the Airlift Committee and the Hotel and Tourism Association was able to successfully negotiate a number of tourism initiatives including a stimulus package for hoteliers and Delta Airlines adding Grenada to its Southern Caribbean route.

Delta already operates services into Trinidad and other Eastern Caribbean islands. The new service will significantly improve Grenada’s capacity to bring tourism to the island. The flight will be a weekly service from December 12 through April, leaving JFK at 8:30 am and arriving in Grenada at 1:30 pm.

David described the news was a “wonderful development for the tourism sector.”
