Seattle becomes a destination for Icelandair
Beginning July 23, 2009, Icelandair will begin offering transatlantic flights from Seattle's Sea-Tac International Airport.
In a statement, the airline said it will kick-off its service from Sea-Tac with an official ribbon-cutting ceremony and traditional water salute to greet the aircraft in its new home at Gate S-1.
The only Nordic carrier serving the West Coast, Icelandair traces an efficient route over the North Atlantic, touting an all-Boeing fleet whose narrow-body design and seating configuration enable it to travel over 3,750 nautical miles. Icelandair is thus able to offer four hours faster flying time from Seattle to Scandinavian destinations of Copenhagen, Oslo, Stavanger, and Stockholm.
Travelers are offered connecting flights to 18 European destinations through Icelandair's hub in Reykjavik, Iceland, and passengers are also afforded the opportunity to stopover in Iceland en route to their European destination at no additional airfare. Icelandair will provide four flights a week, departing on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays at 4:30 p.m., and arriving in Reykjavik at 6:45 a.m. Plans also include adding a fifth flight for the 2010 schedule.
In addition to the recent statement of regular scheduled service to Manchester, England, and Glasgow, Scotland, Icelandair has announced it will also offer two flights a week to Brussels, Belgium, in June of 2010.
Among Icelandair’s other destinations include Boston, New York-JFK, Seattle, Minneapolis/St. Paul (seasonal), Orlando Sanford (seasonal), Halifax (seasonal) and Toronto (seasonal). Nonstop connections through Icelandair's hub in Reykjavik are available to 18 destinations in Scandinavia (including Copenhagen, Oslo, Stavanger, Stockholm), Great Britain (including Glasgow, London, Manchester) and Continental Europe (including Amsterdam, Berlin, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Munich, Paris).
