Pakistan Railways gets Zulfikar Ali Bhutto's grand saloon for tourism promotion
ISLAMABAD - Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani on Saturday directed Pakistan Railways (PR) to use the grand saloon of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto for tourism purposes and generate revenue to improve its services.
Handing over the saloon at a ceremony at the Margalla Railway Station to the PR, Gilani said the saloon was used by Bhutto for election campaign and now it would be used for funds generation.
“Those who can afford to use it should utilise it,” Gilani said, adding that these cannot be used anymore by the heads of government or state because of security concerns.
The prime minister said his government was committed to improving the PR to make it a profit-bearing organisation. He recalled the changes he made to the PR when he was minister for railways. He said there was a need to double railway tracks and his government would try to do it.
