JAL seeks to increase fuel surcharge

Jul 09, 2009

TOKYO - Japan Airlines Corp. said Thursday that it is seeking to increase its international cargo fuel surcharge for flights departing from Japan from Aug. 1.

The Japanese airline company applied to Japan's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism to raise the charges.

Once approved, the international cargo fuel surcharge on long-haul international routes will rise to Y66 per kilogram from Y45; on medium-haul international routes to Y57 per kilogram from Y39; and on short-haul routes to Y48 from Y33.

The increases reflect the average fuel price in June, JAL said.

The latest move follows a hike in these charges for July.
