At least 21 killed, 33 wounded in Jordan tourist bus crash
AMMAN, Jordan — At least 21 people were killed Saturday when a tour bus collided with a water tanker on a highway in northern Jordan, the official Petra news agency reported.
At least 33 others were wounded, including three people in critical condition, Petra said quoting police spokesman Mohammed al-Khatib.
The tour bus, which was operated by the privately owned Jordanian Trust Co., was traveling from the northern town of Jerash to Irbid, located about 55 miles north of the capital, Amman, when it crashed with the tanker and overturned into a valley. The bus fell 108 feet through the air before landing on the valley floor, the agency reported.
Police were investigating the accident, which was believed to have involved mainly Jordanian citizens, al-Khatib said. It was not immediately clear if other foreigners were injured or killed in the crash, he said.
Jordan TV footage showed the bus' green and white frame twisted with part of the vehicle's body shorn off.
The bus began its journey earlier Saturday from the southern Red Sea port city of Aqaba and crashed midday, al-Khatib was quoted as saying.

The buss was not a tourist bus, it was carrying mainly Jordanian students. This accident had a huge reflection on the Jordanian media and the officials, especially from His majesty King Abdullah the second. Almost a year after this incidental and as a result of the cooperation between the public and private sectors the percentage of Road Accidents killing in Jordan decreased 36%.
