MANILA - A female Japanese national was killed after being hit by the propeller of a motor boat while scuba-diving in the waters in Cebu, the Philippines, the police said on Saturday.

Etsuko Kosaka, 52, from Ishikawa, Japan, was brought to a nearby Mactan Doctors Hospital for head injuries but died while undergoing treatment, according to a report released by the Philippine National Police.

The incident occurred Thursday noon in Cebu, about 587 kilometers south of Manila.

Kosaka came up from an underwater diving activity with some other Japanese companions when she was "extremely hit" on the head by the propeller of a passing motor boat, the report said.

The boat's operator has voluntarily submitted himself to responding policemen.
